Overview

The Pascale Sykes Family Foundation works to promote the integrity, independence and well-being of the working, low-income intergenerational family. In support of this work, CHS leads a coalition that provides literacy services to families to assist them in moving toward these goals. In addition to leading the coalition, CHS conducts family intake assessments, manages cases, monitors and assesses each family’s progress, and provides English as a second language (ESL) instruction.

Key Activities

  • Providing programs, workshops and classes to support:
    • Parenting empowerment
    • Academic enrichment
    • Completion of the General Educational Development (GED) certificate
    • Financial literacy
    • English-as-a-second language and ESL/civics education

Achievements

  • During the second grading period in the grant’s second year, 80% of the students participating in the Academic Enrichment Program excelled in all areas of study.
