Center for Human Services continues services to disadvantaged populations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania

CHS has won three contracts to continue to provide educational, vocational training, and other social services to Latino populations (with a particular focus on the Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker community) in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Through one of the programs, CHS will provide diabetes management services to African-American and Latino populations in New Jersey.

Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers with Disabilities Program

These projects, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services, provide educational and vocational services to migrant and seasonal farmworkers (MSFWs) with disabilities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The program identifies and recruits migrants and seasonal farmworkers with disabilities and assists them and their families in receiving services such as rehabilitation after work related injuries, career counseling, job training and placement and occupational skills training. In addition, CHS provides assessment, case management, counseling, referral, and educational services (English as a Second Language, native language literacy, basic and workplace math skills, General Education Development test preparation,
and college preparatory training).

New Jersey Diabetes Prevention and Control Program

This program, funded by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, provides diabetes management services to African-American and Latino populations (with a particular focus on the MSFW community) living in Cumberland County, New Jersey. In partnership with Community Health Care Incorporated, a non-profit, community-based medical and dental care provider, CHS works to heighten awareness about diabetes services, increase screening and identification of individuals living with diabetes, and improve access to care and resources.

Consolidated Adult Basic Education Skills and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education

This innovative program, funded by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, is directed to Southern New Jersey’s large Latino community. In partnership with the Salem County Vocational Technical School, the prime grant recipient, CHS provides English literacy services and civics education to foreign-born adult learners in Salem County, New Jersey. While learning English, program participants can receive vocational and other life-skills training.
